From Bryan Hulbert
Tulsa, OK — (April 22, 2013) — Hailed as the longest, continuously promoted, dirt track in the United States, the Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. welcomes the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real on Saturday, April 27 for the fifth running of the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 presented by Sprintsource.com.
Serving as the eighth round of competition for the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real in 2013, the Rock N’ Roll 50 is the creation of ASCS National Tour driver Tony Bruce, Jr. and the first event of the season for TBJ Promotions.
Talking with Tony Bruce, Jr. about the Rock ‘N Roll 50 and the inspiration for the event, Bruce explained simply that the event was inspired by the surrounding community, “Pretty much, Memphis is the birth place of Rock ‘n Roll. Simply put, the name was inspired by the city of Memphis.”
As the longest race of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real, it was revealed that the idea for the 50 lap A-Feature came about because of the uniqueness of the track known as “The Ditch”. “We wanted to do a 50 lap race and fortunately, Riverside is a short enough track to be able to host a 50 lap race without worrying to much about fuel.”
Much like the Ridgeway Clock awarded to NASCAR Sprint Cup winners at the Martinsville Speedway, the Rock ‘N Roll 50 carries the unique prize of a custom painted Gibson Electric Guitar.
Asked what inspired the unique prize, Bruce replied, “We just kind of thought about doing something with the trophy. You know something cool that people would want. What’s funny is a lot of times people tell me they would rather have the trophy than the winners payout. It’s one of those deals where we came up with an idea and it just took off.”
Entering the Saturday affair, defending Rock ‘ Roll 50 champion Seth Bergman has spent his time competing amongst the ASCS Nation in regional competition, earning a $2,000 bounty at the Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. with the American Bank of Oklahoma Sooner Region this past Friday. Much like Riverside, the Oklahoma oval is a very tight, very technical quarter-mile; a track type of track that Seth seems to shine on.
The only other driver besides Arkansas native Tim Crawly to claim the coveted guitar, Bergman, in an interview with Inside Line Promotions, described his Rock ‘N Roll 50 triumph as gratifying and went on to say, “I had been working the last few years on the tour trying to get that win. A lot of hard work and time and energy by a lot of people finally paid off. It was just perfect for us to get our first win there. I don’t know if I’d take any other situation to get my first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win.”
The Rock ‘N Roll 50 is slated from Saturday, April 20 with a start time of 7:30 P.M (CT). Tickets can be purchased the day of the event or online at http://www.tbjpromotions.com.
