Attica, OH — (May 13, 2013) — As part of its 25th anniversary season, Attica Raceway Park will pay tribute to the first promoter of “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speedplant on Friday, May 17th. Eric Phillips was one of the men responsible for bringing racing back to Attica in 1988, and ARP will honor his memory with a huge night of racing on American Powersports of Findlay and Sandusky/Sutton Bank Night.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints will compete in twin 25-lap features, each paying $2,500 to win/$250 to start.

As it is a Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series points race, the FAST organization has put up bonus money for its members – $500 to the highest average finish in the two features with $200 for the second highest average. Only the first feature will reward FAST points toward the $10,000 season-ending championship. All ties will be broken by the driver sitting the highest in FAST points after the first feature event on May 17.

“Thanks to the FAST guys and their presenting sponsor Kevin Shammo and KS Sales and Service. Also to Linda and Laverne Burns of Burns Electric and Underground Utilities for stepping up for the bonus money,” said Rex LeJeune, Director of Operations at ARP.

Also, the Foster’s Auto Body 305 Sprints will be competing without the use of the nose wings and will be vying for $600 to win in the feature thanks to Hoserville Ohio.

“We wanted to do this with the 305 sprints as a tribute to Eric. He started the ‘Econo Sprint’ division and this is a way to honor that,” said LeJeune.

The Summit Racing Equipment UMP DIRTcar Late Models will also be in competition.

Also on Friday, the Attica Community Garage Sales are going on throughout the town and race fans are encouraged to come early and shop for bargains. And, in the souvenir barn there will be a replica model on display of the track as it was in 1992 with wooden sprint cars built by John Flood and Lloyd Shoup.

“We are also encouraging fans to be in their seats after hot laps for a pre-race ceremony including a video tribute to Eric Phillips,” said LeJeune.

Tickets are $20 for adults; $18 for senior citizens; $10 for teens ages 11-15; and kids 10 and under are free. Pit passes are $30. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing to start at 7:45 p.m.
