Monrow, WA — (August 3, 2013) — Saturday night August 3rd will go in the records book, as Jeff Montgomery, in his ASA NSRA Winged Sprint Car went faster than anyone ever has on the 5/8-mile oval in the 58-year history of Evergreen Speedway. A blistering :18.595 lap eclipsed the old record that stood for ten years by his brother Trevor at :18.732. Matt Hein went on to win the 30-lap Rory Price Memorial presented by Pettit Oil feature. On the 3/8-mile oval Jason McQuinn won the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock main and Evan Margeson won the 20-lap WMRA/USAC midget main. The Northwest Outlaw Figure Eight 50-lap main was won by Nick Gunderson in front of a good crowd enjoying the night in perfect weather. The night drew drivers from Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Canada.

Qualifying for the annual Rory price Memorial presented by Pettit Oil was an amazing show of speed. Trevor Montgomery was the fastest ever on Evergreen Speedway’s 5/8-mile oval for the past ten years until Saturday night. The first to go quicker than Trevor was Matt Mansell who turned in a record setting :18.721 lap only to have that short lived record broke. Jeff Montgomery came onto the track and on lap two of qualifying set the new record for the fastest ever at an amazing :18.595 equal to 121mph average with speed guns getting him close to 160mph on the front stretch.

The Rory Price Memorial 30-lap feature was won by Hein again. Hein the only driver to win it more than twice in its eight year history. The night looked like it was going to Matt Mansell when a caution came out on lap 17 and Mansell for unknown reasons went into the pits after building a 4 second lead. With Mansell in the pits the lead went to Robert Beck and second was Matt Hein with Jeff Montgomery third. Beck kept the lead until lap 29 when in traffic Hein was able to squeeze by for the lead and the win. Beck finished a disappointed second and Montgomery held onto the third position. Andy Alberding finished fourth ahead of Johnny Geisler.

Street Stocks were on the 3/8-mile oval and Jason McQuinn picked up his second win of the season. Second place went to Dave Lund and points leader Roger Drake finished third. Darrel Lutovsky finished fourth and Steve Ptacek fifth. The points for the championship got a bit closer for winner McQuinn who is chasing Drake for the 2013 title.

Margeson had a clean sweep in the WMRA/USAC Midgets division by being quickest qualifier, winning the trophy dash, heat race and main event. There was no one in the division that could even mount any kind of a challenge. Finishing a distant second was Kris McKensie. Third went to Aaron Willison and fourth to Billy Bell followed by Tony Seidelman.

The traveling NWOF8 winner Nick Gunderson let everyone know he was the class of the field on Saturday night. Leading the entire 50-laps Gunderson drove a masterful race as he avoided traffic at the X of the figure eight. Second went to Pat Clark who also did a great job as he had to fight with third place finisher John Carlson and fourth Place Don Eslick to get the podium position. Fifth place was Mike Steltz.
