After spending a week piloting his winged 410ci sprint car, Rico Abreu spent his weekend back aboard a Keith Kunz midget, and the 21-year-old pilot found victory lane on Friday night in Lincoln, IL.

Starting on the front row of the 30-lap feature event, Abreu took advantage of the prime spot, as he jumped out to the early lead.

Out front, Abreu found the top of the speedway to his liking, as he began stretching his lead out over Brad Kuhn.

With lapped traffic quickly coming into play, Kuhn erased Abreu’s lead a bit, but the Rutherford, CA pilot was able to keep a pair of lappers in between himself and Kuhn.

A late restart saw Abreu get a great restart, over a lapped car and Kuhn, and he was able to keep Kuhn and bay, and pick up a very popular win.

“We had an awesome car,” Abreu said. “Keith and the boys do a great job getting these thing’s dialed in, and Rick Long builds an awesome engine.”

On Saturday night, Abreu was in action again at the Macon Speedway in Macon, IL where he was able to tally a sixth place finish.

On Sunday, Abreu at the KKM team were in action at the Angel Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the Cornfest, and Abreu unfortunately had some bad luck, on a track he traditionally runs very well at.

Running in the third spot in the feature event, Abreu suffered a U-Joint failure, and his night was over.

“Overall it was a great weekend for our team,” Abreu said. “I was able to win on Friday, while Christopher Bell won on Saturday. Sunday I was right in contention but we broke. Keith Kunz and all the guys do a great job, and I thank them for everything they do for me.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, ButlerBuilt, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld, Keith Kunz Motorsports, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and Willwood for their support.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-73, Wins-5, Top 5’s-29, Top 10’s-41

ON TAP: Abreu will now head back to his native California to compete at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Saturday night.
