Rilat and Saumure Team Up for Another Victory in a New State

HIGHLANDS, Texas (Sept. 30, 2013) – Travis Rilat made Richard Saumure’s long haul from Canada to Texas worthwhile on Saturday when the duo partnered for its fifth feature victory of the season.

The team has now won in Washington, Oregon, Texas and Edmonton, Canada, including last weekend’s ASCS Gulf South Region triumph at Battleground Speedway.

“I was pretty excited for him to bring that thing down here and run it,” Rilat said.

Rilat charged from fifth to second place during his heat race, which earned him enough points to advance to the feature redraw.

“It took me a few laps to get the thing rolling,” he said. “We were set up for momentum. The car was a little tight.”

Rilat then pulled the No. 2 in the random draw, which determined the first four rows of the 30-lap feature. After starting on the outside of the front row, Rilat powered to the lead on Lap 4 and sailed to his first win in his home state this season.

“We had to get some momentum going to get the car rolling,” he said. “(The leader) made a few mistakes and bobbled and we were able to carry right through. We were gone.

“(The track) was pretty wide. You pretty much ran around the top. In turns three or four you could run high or low. I like the bigger, faster tracks where you can run up against the fence. It suited our style.”

Sunday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, was cancelled because of weather.

Rilat and Saumure will take the next couple of weeks away from the track before returning for the 40th annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Oct. 18-19.
