WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Nov. 11, 2013) – Derek Hagar ended his career-best season with one of his most frustrating races.

Hagar battled a heavy race track and handling issues Saturday night and he pulled into the pits prior to the midpoint of the feature at Riverside International Speedway. He was credited with a 16th-place result, which marked only his third finish outside of the top 10 all season.

“It wasn’t the best weekend,” he said. “We fought handling problems all night. (The track) was bad heavy. I haven’t seen it that heavy in a long time.”

Hagar advanced from eighth to sixth place on the start of his heat race, but was unable to pick up any additional positions.

“It was real, real greasy on the bottom and I started on the outside,” he said. “I got a couple of spots on the start when the inside guys spun their tires. It was one of those deals where you follow whoever is in front of you.”

Hagar then lined up on the inside of the eighth row for the 30-lap feature.

“The handle of the car was off and I didn’t want to tear up my car,” he said. “I couldn’t get the car free enough all night. Usually we’re pretty good there when there’s moisture. We had 17 inches of stagger and still couldn’t get the car to turn.”

With the challenging track and race car, Hagar exited the quarter-mile oval early.

“It sucks going into the offseason like that, but I know we have a good car and I know we have a good team,” he said. “We’ll start off strong next year.”

Hagar scored a career-high 10 feature victories this season and recorded 45 top-10 finishes in 48 races.
