Night one of the 2014 Australian Wingless Sprints Title was won by Jarman Dalitz at Quit Bunbury Speedway on Friday night.
The 20 lap A-main saw 20 cars start the feature race and 17 finish.
2nd place went to Daniel Hartigan over Tyson Bryden in 3rd, followed by Tom Payet and Scott Thomsen.
The feature saw most of the racers steer away from the cushion and choose the low line but South Australian Dalitz chose the highline to lead him to his night one victory. He quickly moved through the field from position six where he started.
Dalitz soon caught W23 Tom Payet and W18 Tyson Bryden, who were battling for 2nd position before Dalitz passed them both and pulled away.
The first red light stoppage was for S25 Joel Chadwick who rolled his car hard and fast in turn one and two with 12 laps to go.
In that restart it was evident that Hartigan had a flat left front tyre, but he soldiered on. Daniel Keen was unfortunately not as lucky with a flat left rear.
It was on the restart after this red light stoppage that Dalitz was able to move around the outside of Hartigan and pull away by a few car lengths for the remaining 11 laps.
The B-main had a rocky start as a few cars pulled out before the race and the next in points lined up for a chance to transfer to the feature. Q88 Brody Thomsen and W21 Jason Jones were lucky enough to be those reserves. At the second green light Van Ryt was put back four positions and Daniel Coleman pulled out when he was supposed to start in position one.
Van Ryt made his positions back at a fast pace but with five laps to go he went a little too high and allowed Tyron Herbert to take the lead and Daniel Keen quickly followed him into 2nd. The finishing order being W25 Tyron Herbert, W16 Daniel Keen, W53 Ben Van Ryt and W57 Kyle Beard were the four that transferred into positions 17, 18, 19 and 20 for the prelim A-main.
Fortunately the rest of the night had little red light stoppages. In heat 5, W54 Ryan Johnston hit a rut in turn three before rolling twice and hitting the fence hard. Luckily for Johnston he was okay and was checked over by the ambulance crew.
In heat 9, W95 Scott Elst was leading the 10 lap heat when he started having motor problems and his car caught fire, forcing him to pull infield.
Going into night two of the Australian Wingless Title W91 Daniel Haritgan is leading the points with 85 followed by W18 Tyson Bryden on 79.5 and W56 Brendon Wedge with 77 points.
