ESS vs. the Corr-Pak Sprint Car Series Friday at Ohsweken Speedway

Ohsweken, ON — (August 5, 2014) — Ohsweken Speedway’s 19th season of racing continues this Friday, August 8, when Nathan Ackland State Farm Insurance presents presents “ESS vs. Corr/Pak” night, featuring the Empire Super Sprints tour versus Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Cars, plus Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, & Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers.

EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS VERSUS CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS
This Friday features the third of three challenge events at Ohsweken this season between traveling Sprint Car series and the regulars of the weekly Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car division. The Empire Super Sprints tour drivers are the foes for Corr/Pak drivers defending home turf this time, following earlier visits from the Patriot Sprint Tour, and Southern Ontario Sprints club.

The New York-based ESS tour travels to Ohsweken this Friday before heading back across the border to Canandaigua, New York on Saturday. Friday’s event will serve as the 4th round in the ESS “Tour of Canada” miniseries. Quebec driver Steve Poirier is no stranger to victory lane at Ohsweken, and took his 6th career Ohsweken win in the 2013 ESS vs. Corr/Pak event. Poirier is the current ESS championship points leader, and “Tour of Canada” points leader, and is also a 3-time winner of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken. Poirier is part of a formidable list of traveling teams expected to race on Friday, including New Yorkers Jason Barney, Jeff Cook, Matt Tanner, Paul Kinney, Kevin Ward, Jr., Jessica Zemken, Dave Axton, Tim Axton, and Joe Trenca, among others. Barney, Cook, and Zemken also have Ohsweken feature wins on their resumes. Poirier has 3 feature wins on the ESS tour this season, while Barney and Cook have 1 each.

Glenn Styres has won 3 Corr/Pak Merchandising 360 Sprint Car features at Ohsweken this season, and leads the championship points standings over Mitch Brown, Jim Huppunen, Kyle Patrick, Shane Ross, Todd Hoddick, Chris Steele, Dave Dykstra, Keith Dempster, and Jamie Turner. Brown and Steele also have Ohsweken feature wins this season, while Patrick is the most recent winner in Ontario following a Southern Ontario Sprints victory at South Buxton Raceway on Saturday, August 2.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS
Aaron Turkey took his 5th Crate Sprint Car feature win of the season in the Northern Summer Nationals event on July 28, but still trails championship points leader Ryan Hunsinger by 23 markers heading into this Friday’s event. Jake Brown is 3rd in the standings, followed by Josh Shantz, Mike Thorne, Paul Lang, Mark Czuba, Brad Herron, Tyler Hendricks, and Robbie General.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Lee Winger took the Thunder Stock feature win during the Six Nations Showdown event on July 29, but is 3rd in the championship points standings behind Wyatt Van Wart, and Dave Silverthorn, Jr. Chris Dickie, Dave Bailey, Rookie of the Year standings leader Chase Hess, Bill Bleich, Jr., Bryce Richardson, Ryan Dinning, and Jim Lampman make up the remainder of the current top 10.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Tyler Lafantaisie has seen Mark Bazuin put a dent in his Mini Stock championship points lead recently, but still has a 48 point lead. Bazuin is 2nd overall and leads the Rookie of the Year standings, followed by Team 81 (Alex Schuts and Lee Hils), Team 66 (Brandon and Jon Janssens), Robin Elliott, Team 79 (Steve and Dan Miller), Kathie Dickie, Team 55 (Rob and Kevin Slater), Jason Lungaro, and Lucas Lubin.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Dusty DeBoer is atop the the Bomber championship points standings as he looks to win his 2nd straight championship, but Joe DeBoer is just 28 points behind in 2nd. Max Chechalk has made gains in recent weeks, and is now 3rd in the standings, followed by Ashton Reekie, Gillian Hils, Clinton Nicholls, Gerald Burnham, Paul Longboat, Tim Nuell, and Team 1210 (Thomas Booker and Derek Dwyer).
