Taylor Ferns had never seen Southern Ohio Speedway until last Friday afternoon, but that did not seem to slow her down. After setting a new track record in time trials at the high-banked four-tenths-mile, she promptly won her heat race and dominated the main event for the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) to earn her first win of the season, which also was the first 410-winged sprint car victory of her career.

While driving a 410-winged sprint car is not exactly like riding a bike, it’s still a skill set that once learned is not easily forgotten. After climbing aboard one of the nearly 900-horsepower machines for the first time in 2010, Taylor Ferns expanded her racing horizons to include USAC National midgets, USAC Silver Crown cars and stock cars in the following years, and is now adding winged sprint car racing back to her on-track endeavors.

Seventeen-year-old Taylor Ferns will be making her Springfield dirt mile debut this weekend pulling double duty in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series.
