Loyet Wins After Stratton DQ’ed During Cowtown Finale

From Darin Short

Kennedale TX — After a thrilling battle between Danny Stratton and Brad Loyet on Friday night at the Cowtown Midget championships, fans were treated to ‘Round 2’ as those same two drivers swapped positions in the $3,000 to win 35-lap championship feature.

When the checkered flag fell, Danny Stratton was able to hold off a wheelie-popping, high-riding Brad Loyet by less than a car length.

But after the dirt balls stopped flying, one final unforeseen twist was thrown into the mix.

A post-race inspection from the SMRS/USAC officials found that the Stratton entry exceeded the ‘width measurement’ relegating the talented driver to a 24th place finish.

This stunning conclusion to the weekend’s event moved the Loyet family-owned #05 to the point and was awarded the championship victory.

And in the hotly contested 50-lap companion Mod Fast 50 sanctioned by NCRA, Chanute Kansas veteran driver John Allen found himself taking the lead from Clyde Dunn Jr. early on in the race, only tolose it back to Dunn 10 laps later, then dropping back as far as 4th, then rallying back to the point and taking home an equally unpredictable win. This was the first time Allen had visited Cowtown Speedway since the 2000 season.

Complete event results, including the ASCS2 series opener, pictures, video clips and much more will be posted at http://www.CowtownSpeedway.com during the day on Sunday, as they become available.

Thank you to the fans and race teams that supported this event and coming next Saturday, March 13th will be the regular season point’s opener at Cowtown featuring the Sprint Series of Texas.
