Stanbrough Slams the Door at Gas City

From Dick Jordan/Bob

On a beautiful summer evening Jon Stanbrough dominated round two of USAC Indiana Sprint Week at Gas City City I-69 Speedway Saturday night.

The largest crowd in the history of the speedway saw an excellent field of 44 USAC sprint cars enter the pits tonight with Bryan Clauson setting quick time. Heat races were won by Jon Stanbrough in a heat that saw Critter Malone flip in turn two. He was uninjured. Chris Windom copped heat two, the third heat went to Justin Grant with the final heat to Jerry Coons Jr..

The Semi was captured by Jonathan Hendrick. Ricky Williams flipped but was ok.

The 30 lap finale saw Jon Stanbrough start inside front row with the 15B of Mike Spencer next door. As the green flag appeared it was obvious Stanbrough was the car to beat (or catch). It was clearly Jon’s race as he dominated all 30 circuits. A late caution bunched the field but once again when the green came out Stanbrough was gone but a good battle for 2nd through 5th saw Mike Spencer, Levi Jones, Tracy Hines and Scotty Weir end their battle in this order.

Check the Gas City photo gallery for a few pictures. More will be put up tomorrow.
