Blaney Scores Spring Nationals at Attica

By T.J. Buffenbarger

Attica, OH — Dale Blaney scored his 77th career All Star Circuit of Champions victory Saturday night at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. Blaney patently waited in the top five during the first half of the 40-lap affair before challenging Byron Reed for the lead with 10 laps to go. When Blaney got a run down low off of turn two Reed hit the cushion and flipped off the track in turn two. Blaney went on to motor away to the victory driving George Fisher’s Ti22 chassis.

“I felt bad for Bryon there, but saw on the replay he hit the cushion,” said BLaney. “It’s been a while since we’ve won here (at Attica). It feels good to be back in victory lane.”

Lucas Wolfe motored into the lead early on as the early laps were interrupted by multiple cautions that included a spin by Jac Haudenschild that collected Johnny Mackison, two spins by Cordy Darrah, and a Cole Duncan spinning after Danny Holtgraver got sideways off of turn four.

Once the field settled down Wolfe opened up a sizeable advantage over McMahan, Blaney, and Reed. Just past the halfway point in the feature McMahan and Reed caught Wolfe. Reed found a line around McMahan on lap 21 to take second. Reed then caught Wolfe for the lead, swapping the position multiple times before Reed took over the top spot.

Once Reed secured the lead he opened up a straightway advantage while Blaney moved around Wolfe, and McMahan for second. As Reed caught slower traffic Blaney closed the gap. Reed and BLaney raced side by side for two laps before Reed’s flip on lap 31. Reed emerged from the car under his own power after the rough end over end tumble.

After crews refueled the cars under the red flag Blaney motored away the last nine laps to victory. Kasey Kahne Racing teammates McMahan and Joey Saldana finished second and third. Saldana’s run from 13th was a recovery after spinning out of a transfer spot on the last lap of his heat race. Defending Knoxville Nationals champion Tim Shaffer and Holtgraver rounded out the top five.

Paul Weaver won the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint Car feature over Jimmy Colvin, Junior Felver, Nate Dussel, and Stuart Brubaker
