New Weston, OH – (July 14, 2012) – Sammy Swindell was once again crowned after winning the 29th Annual Kings Royal Saturday at Eldora Speedway. Swindell held off a late race charge from Kerry Madsen over the last five laps to win his third Eldora crown and the $50,000 winner’s purse.
The wild 40-lap affair kicked off in grand style with Paul McMahan and Daryn Pittman trading the lead before Pittman solidified the position. Sammy Swindell slid into third while Chad Kemenah and Tim Kaeding battled side by side for four position. Pittman then had a close call when Stevie Smith spun in turn four right in front of him to bring out the caution flag.
During the restart Swindell got the advantage and raced into the lead he would never relinquish. One lap later Tim Kaeding hit the backstretch wall and rolled to a stop on the front straightaway. Keading went to the work area, but was unable to make repairs.
During the restart a hair raising moment occurred when Kemenah lost power and Dale Blaney, who was running in the top five, had to take evasive action to miss him. Blaney kept going, but lost significant distance to the leaders.
Pittman mounted a challenge for the lead on lap 15, but Swindell was up for the slide job exchange and maintained the lead. As the leaders hit lapped traffic Kerry Madsen held the hot hand. Madsen raced around Justin Henderson for third, then disposed Pittman for second two laps later and set sail for Swindell.
After a caution on lap 28 for damage to Brad Sweet’s car and a subsequent fuel stop Swindell once again motored out to a four car length lead during the restart over Madsen. Jac Haudenschild also took advantage of the restart and moved into third.
Madsen took a shot to the inside of Swindell with five laps to go, but could not make the pass work. Madsen spend the final laps trying to catch Swindell, making a last ditch effort by diving low in turns three in four, just to come up a car length short. Madsen, Haudenschild, Henderson, and Kraig Kinser rounded out the top five.
Craig Dollansky was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 13.338 seconds at an average speed of 134.953 miles per hour around the Eldora half mile. Chad Kemenah, Justin Henderson, Daryn Pittman, Sammy Swindell, Paul McMahan, and Tim Kaeding won heat race events. Dallas Hewitt won the C-Main event while Donny Schatz won the B-Main.
