Santa Maria, CA – (June 11, 2013) – This Saturday, June 15th, the Honda USAC Western Midget Series will travel to Petaluma Speedway for another “shootout” with the Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA). The Pit Stop Wingless Spec Sprints, Super Stocks, and Hardtops will join the action packed card at “The Fastest 3/8 Mile Dirt Oval in Northern California.” The Front Gates will open at 4:00pm, Time Trials at 5:00pm, and Racing is set to begin at 6:30pm.

Saturday’s race will mark the second appearance of the Honda USAC Western Midget Series at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. Last October, Shane Golobic of Fremont claimed a popular victory at the inaugural 101-lap “Soares Classic.” Nearly two weeks ago, Golobic also scored the “USAC-BCRA Grudge Race” win at Placerville Speedway.
Heading to the eleventh point race of the season, Ronnie Gardner of Norco leads both the overall and dirt series point standings. Piloting the Six8 Motorsports’ #68 Baldozier Racing / Esslinger Engineering Stewart, Gardner placed third in the June 1st race at Placerville. The current point leader has two feature wins, one heat race victory, six top-10 finishes, and 47 feature laps led to his credit. Gardner will be looking to add Petaluma to his win list as he gets closer to the championship.
Running second in both the overall and dirt championship points is Anaheim’s Jake Swanson. Racing the Van Dyne / Swanson Motorsports #05 Edmunds, last year’s USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year ran fifth at Placerville. To date, Swanson has one feature win, four heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 43 feature laps led. Jake will be looking to earn valuable championship points with a Petaluma victory.
David Prickett of Fresno is third in both the overall and dirt series point standings. Driving the Neverlift Motorsports’ #15 Crysalli Water / Mt. Rose Cocktail Mixes Spike, Prickett was ninth in the Placerville feature. The veteran driver has yet to score a main event win but has four heat race victories, one semi-main win, and six top-10 finishes on the year. David will have his sights on claiming the feature win this Saturday night.
After scoring fourth last Saturday on the Madera pavement, Alamo’s Scott Pierovich has climbed to fourth in the overall standings. Piloting the family owned #35 Mid-Coast Trans / Good Guys Spike, Pierovich is sixth in the dirt series with two heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 6 feature laps led. Scott will be looking to add Saturday’s win Petaluma to his resume.
Cody Swanson of Norco is fifth in the overall points and fourth in the dirt series. Driving the family owned #71 Edmunds Auto Research / K&N Filters entry, Swanson did not race at Placerville as he gets closer to making his debut in a local Sprint Car ride. To date, the defending VRA Midget Champion has one feature win, one heat race victory, three top-10 finishes, and 31 feature laps led in the campaign. At press time, Cody may miss the event at Petaluma Speedway.
Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Frankie Guerrini, Shannon McQueen, Randi Pankratz, Nick Chivello, Terry Nichols, Britton Bock, Sean Dodenhoff, Floyd Alvis, Gary Conterno, Taylor Simas, and more.
Petaluma Speedway is located on the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California at 100 Fairgrounds Drive. Adult Tickets are $15, Senior Tickets are $10, and Junior Tickets are $10. For more information, visit the track’s website at www.petaluma-speedway.com or call (530) 626-3680.
