He’s won USAC and World of Outlaw Sprint championships, the Knoxville Nationals, the Kings Royal and Historical Big One at Eldora Speedway, and even a victory in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, but none may have been as special as Wednesday night’s victory at his home track.

Hafertepe Wins Lou Blaney Memorial

Spectacular weather provided the backdrop for the third annual Lou Blaney Memorial on Tuesday night at Sharon Speedway as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Midwest All Star Sprint Cars and the Governor Insurance Agency Big-Block Modifieds took part in the prestigious event. Another huge crowd honored the late legend, who amassed over 600 wins in his racing career before passing away in 2009.

Friday Night Thunder Rained Out for the 6th Time in 7 Weeks at Sharon

The un-relentless spring rains just won’t go away. After a sunny start to the day on Friday, thunderstorms developed late in the afternoon and pounded Sharon Speedway once again forcing the postponement of “Friday Night Thunder” to next Friday, May 20. This marked the sixth rainout in seven tries; however, the May 6 program’s features will be made up.

Sharon Rained Out After Preliminaries

Rain showers washed out the features events Friday night at Sharon Speedway after all of the heat races were completed. Make-up features will be run in subsequent events thus rain checks will be void. It was the sixth straight week rain has been in the forecast for the “Friday Night Thunder” programs.

Sharon Rained Out

Rain showers started late morning on Friday and with rain in the forecast throughout the day and night, the decision was made to cancel the April 22 “Friday Night Thunder” program. It was the third cancellation in four weeks. A decision regarding Saturday night’s “Steel Valley Thunder” program will be made later Saturday morning.

Griffin Wins at Sharon

Fresh off his opening night win last weekend at Mercer Raceway Park, Guy Griffin made it two-for-two in the debut of the new Outlaw Sprint Warrior division. The defending five-time Limited/Green Flag Sprint Sharon champion came from fifth to pass Rob Felix, Jr. on lap 10 and went on for the 15-lap Ti22 Performance feature win.
