He and several other competitors were complimentary of the micro sprint track in Tulsa, Okla., last fall, which led to the tight oval being booked this Saturday and Sunday for the Turnpike Challenge with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.
“My first five years of racing, that’s where I raced on Saturday nights,” he said. “I’ve won three nonwing nationals. I’ve won more than 50 races there.”
Baughman put together the team’s best performance of the short season last Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park during the ASCS Gulf South Region season opener.
Wood will return to a midget for the first time since the Chili Bowl this Saturday and Sunday at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla., for the Turnpike Challenge with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.
There were some bright spots for Wheatley during an up-and-down weekend at Thunderbowl Raceway last Friday and Saturday with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.
“We kinda fought the car and the motor all weekend long,” he said.
